Goucher drops close decision to Susquehanna
By: Megan Melusky
The Goucher men’s basketball team lost a close game to the Susquehanna Crusaders, 86-82. The Gophers and the Crusaders stayed close in points throughout the game but as at it came down to the last few minutes it seemed clear that Susquehanna would sustain a there lead to secure the win.
Kevin Miles and Alex Noble led the Gophers in scoring with 20 and 19 points, respectively. Noble also collected the most rebounds for Goucher with nine. The leading scorers for the Crusaders included Brandon Hedley with 22 and Steven Weilich with 17.
Goucher scored 46 of their points from the paint, while Susquehanna only managed eleven points inside the lane. However their shooting proved effective elsewhere on the court. Both teams finished the game with similar shooting-percentages but Susquehanna scored 21 points at the free throw line and Goucher only finished the game with six on nine attempts.
With Susquehanna holding onto a five to eight point lead over the last two minutes of the game, Goucher was forced to foul so they could stop the clock and attempt the comeback. However, with the Crusaders shooting 70-percent from the line ad the Gophers missing their opportunities, it was easy for Susquehanna to stay ahead.
Susquehanna was ahead by six points with only two seconds remaining in the game when Tucker Canary drove down the court for the final lay-up but obviously the Crusaders already had the win.
Goucher moves to 2-6 in the Landmark Conference and 3-14 overall and have been eliminated from postseason play.
