The Goucher men’s basketball team lost a close conference game to a tough Drew University Rangers in overtime last night. While the Gophers came out strong in the first half, the Rangers caught up in the second half and took the lead multiple times. Throughout the second half, neither team took more than a six-point lead.

The game headed to overtime after Drew’s Brian McLaughlin countered Goucher’s Zachary Hall’s free throw with 34 seconds left with a few throw of his own less than two seconds later. Drew ended the two overtime periods head of Goucher by seven points, making the final score, 90-83.

Players who made highlights for the Gophers included another strong performance by sophomore transfer Chris Outing with 25 points. Junior Kevin Miles also put up 25 points. However, it was not enough of an answer to Drew’s Kevin Herring II’s 30-point game.

Goucher had a strong defensive game keeping the Rangers to just 20 points in the paint while the Gophers managed to more than double it with 44 inside. But the Rangers made up for this by going 14-for-32 from 3-point range and Gougher only made four in the game.

Goucher is now 1-1 in the Landmark Conference and 1-7 overall. They will get a second chance at Drew on Jan. 24 in Madison, NJ. But for now their focus shifts to road game against Gallaudet on Saturday Dec. 13. Conference play will resume for the Gophers on Jan. 6 with a home matchup against Juniata.
