Two Greyhounds earn All-League honors

Loyola Athletic Communications Press Release

A pair of Loyola University Maryland women’s basketball players picked up postseason honors Friday, as junior Bri Betz-White was named to the All-Patriot League First Team and freshman Stephanie Karcz collected All-Defensive Team and All-Rookie Team accolades.

Betz-White is one of two guards on the five-member first-team and becomes Loyola’s second first-team All-Patriot League honoree since joining the League four years ago. With a 15.0 points per game average, the native of Mechanicsburg, Pennsylvania, ranks fourth in the League in scoring this year, while she’s also tied for fourth in assists, distributing 3.4 per game.

A Preseason All-Patriot League honoree and two-time The Rock Patriot League Player of the Week selection this season, Betz-White scored in double figures through 23 of 28 games this season, including dropping at least 20 points on six occasions. Her career-high 37 points vs. Colgate is the most for a Patriot League player this season, while it’s also the most for a Greyhound under head coach Joe Logan and the most for a Loyola player since Patty Stoffey had 39 vs. Fairfield in 1990.

In picking up her first all-conference honor since being named to the Patriot League All-Rookie Team in 2013-14, Betz-White joins former teammate Colleen Marshall ’16 as Loyola’s only first-team honorees.

Karcz is the lone freshman to be named to the All-Defensive Team this season and is Loyola’s second selection to the team since it joined the League for the 2013-14 season. The rookie from Red Bank, New Jersey, is also one of two guards voted to this year’s All-Rookie Team.

A four-time The Rock Patriot League Rookie of the Week selection, Karcz finished the regular season third on the team in scoring, with 9.6 points per game. She also led the Greyhounds in steals and rebounds, ranking second in the League with 2.5 steals per game and eighth with 6.4 rebounds per contest.

Karcz becomes Loyola’s third Patriot League All-Rookie Team honoree, as teammates Lisa Mirarchi (2013-14) and Betz-White (2014-15) also collected the honor.

Loyola will open Patriot League Tournament play Saturday, as it hosts ninth-seeded Lehigh in the first round. Opening tip is scheduled for 7 p.m. at Reitz Arena.
