Stevenson Athletic Communications Press Release

Stevenson University men’s basketball freshman Cameron Hayes was named the MAC Commonwealth Rookie of the Year as the league announced its All-Conference teams Friday morning. Hayes was also an Honorable Mention All-Conference selection.

Hayes becomes the second Mustang to earn MAC Commonwealth Rookie of the Year honors, as Christian Roberts earned the honor in the 2012-13 season.

Hayes played in all 25 games for Stevenson and was in the starting lineup 24 times. He led the Mustangs and all MAC Commonwealth freshmen in scoring at 14.9 points per game, currently ranking eighth in the conference in scoring. He reached double figures in scoring 17 times, including in each of the final seven games, and led Stevenson in scoring on 11 occasions. Over the final seven games, Hayes averaged 21.4 ppg, including a career-best 31 against Alvernia on February 14.

Hayes shot 42.2% from the floor, 35% behind the arc and 78.1% from the free throw line and also averaged 4.2 rebounds per game.
