Though Tiffany McKee made 12 saves the Stevenson women’s soccer team failed to even record a shot on goal in the second half in their 1-0 loss.

On one of the hottest days of the year, the Stevenson women’s soccer team was unable to beat both the heat and the Gettysburg Bullets, falling to them 1-0. The Mustangs dropped to 2-2 on the year, looking for a rebound this weekend.

Throughout the game, the Mustangs were completely unable to get any sort of offensive push. They only took three shots on goal in the first half, and they did not take a single one in the second half. The lack of opportunities looked to be caused by sluggishness and lack of ball movement. Even though neither team got a ton of good looks at the goal, the Bullets were able to get 15 shots off throughout the course of the game, including nine in the second half. Without a lot of opportunities, Stevenson was unable to score a goal.

The Bullets had a decent offensive day, keeping the ball mostly at midfield or on the Stevenson side of the field. However, they only managed to push one shot in: a terrific corner pass to a knock in. Forward Melissa Seidner passed across the field to forward Hannah Theurer, who knocked the ball right into the corner of the goal for the only score of the game in the 52rd minute. It was the only exciting play in an otherwise slow day.

The lone bright spot for the Mustangs was goalie Tiffany McKee, who had 12 saves on the day. She made numerous diving stops, and did not let a lot of balls get by her. Besides the one goal given up, she was near perfect, keeping her team in the game despite the lack of field position for the majority of the game. The offense was not able to back her strong play up though.
